"With every drop of water you drink, every breath you take, you're connected to the sea" Sylvia Earle
"Water and air, the two essential fluids on which all life depends, have become global garbage cans" Jacques Cousteau
"The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it." Anon
Waikawa Dive Centre has been involved in sea care from our very beginnings. Preserving the Marlborough Sounds in a natural state is important to us. We run several clean-ups per year for divers to contribute their skills and free the sea of rubbish. These projects also aim to educate people not to use the sea as an "out of sight, out of mind" dumping ground.
That's why we are now a Mission "Blue Oceans" Dive Centre, part of a global SSI initiative to care for the ocean. YOU can help be a part by being an WDC environmental diver (OW certification required & Search and Recovery specialty recommended) or boat and shore rubbish collector. Pictures shown are from our 2019 Earth Day dive.
The key strategies are:
ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS
AVOID RUBBISH
DON'T TOUCH THE UNDERWATER WORLD
USE RESOURCES RESPONSIBLY

We're in Waikawa Marina, Picton. Picton is in the Marlborough Sounds, at the top of the South Island of New Zealand. Our trips can depart from any location in Queen Charlotte Sound by arrangement.
